New Country Music Releases 12/31/07

by

Karaokesign.jpgWell, it may be a new year, but there sure aren’t many new CDs to choose from this week in the country music world. I understand the idea behind not releasing anything at this time of year. I’m sure most country music superstars don’t want to spend their holidays away from their loved ones plugging a new album, doing the media rounds on talk shows, radio shows, and various other outlets, or to have to tour in support of a new album over these holidays. However, what about us fans?

We can’t keep existing on karaoke albums, which is all that seems to be coming out in recent memory. This week we do have a concert album from the late great Johnny Cash, but that obviously isn’t new. If you want some gospel country, you can check out the new release from David Davidson. Otherwise, I hope you got a karaoke machine for Christmas this year because that’s all there is left to choose from this week.

So, if you just happen to be a country music record executive or some other high powered person in the world of country music, please release some actually new albums from our favorite artists and give us something new to listen to!

Here’s to hoping this drought of new country music albums ends very quickly this new year! Until then, you can check out what was released this week by reading after the jump.

we all would love to hear new album releases this time of year, we are worn out with repeticious playing of last years hits. for some reason some labels sign artists ,put them on the road to radio stations and sparse real contact ,i believe to try to tease us with the talent but more so to mold the artist into what they want for mainstream radio. what about pure country ,non comercial cookie cutter style. how about giving the public what they want want? total control of new talent is damaging to alot of new female artists!!! alot of them get labeled sounds like because of production. oh she,s a Gretchen sound like !!

    I agree, Mike.

The caliber of talent on Nashville Star is so much better than just about anything that comes across on American Idol, but we don’t hear from hardly anyone on Nashville Star again, even if they win. Meanwhile, People Magazine had a country edition a month or so ago and had a profile of all the American Idol contestants that had country music contracts now and there were 11 of them!

I guess record labels are looking for the cross over sound that can make money on the pop charts, too. Like Taylor Swift’s Teardrops on My Guitar is playing on pop stations now, but it has an up tempo added back beat that drives me crazy. It’s not supposed to be a happy song! Geesh.
