Carrie Underwood Joining Grand Ole Opry

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

carriecmaarrival.jpgShe’s come a long way from talent shows in Oklahoma. American Idol winner Carrie Underwood has certainly made the most of her opportunity with her six number one singles so far, and now one of her long time dreams is coming true. After performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage this past weekend, Opry member and legend Randy Travis came on stage and invited Carrie to join the Grand Ole Opry. She obviously happily accepted and will be formally inducted after a performance on May 10th.

Randy Travis joined Carrie on stage after she performed a song originally written and performed by Travis, “I Told You So”. An emotional Carrie told her fans and the rest of the Grand Ole Opry membership and audience, “This is one of the best nights of my life, and it’s certainly something I’ll never forget. And I’m glad each and every one of you were here to share it with me. This has been absolutely amazing.” Underwood just turned 25 last week, and finished out her birthday week on a high note.

Check the TV listings at GAC’s official website to see times for the rerun of her performance and invitation into the Opry.

Saturday Song Lyrics (Carrie Underwood)

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

carriecma1.jpgIn honor of the newly crowned “Song of the Year” at this past week’s CMA awards, this week’s Saturday Song Lyrics come from Carrie Underwood’s smash hit “Before He Cheats”. This is just one of those songs that I crank in my car and sing along to at the top of my lungs with feeling. Congratulations to Carrie on the award!

“Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood

Right now, he’s probably slow dancing
With a bleach blonde tramp
And she’s probably gettin’ frisky

Right now, he’s probably buying her
Some fruity little drink
‘Cause she can’t shoot whisky

Right now, he’s probably up behind her
With a pool stick showing her
How to shoot a combo
But he don’t know

That I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little suped up
Four wheel Drive
Carved my name
Into his leather seats
Took a Louisville Slugger
To both headlights
Slashed a hole
In all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think
Before he cheats

Right now, she’s probably up singing
Some white trash version
Of Shania Karaoke

Right now, she’s probably saying
“I’m Drunk” and he’s a thinking
That he’s gonna get lucky

Right now, he’s probably dabbing on
Three dollars worth of
That bathroom polo
But he don’t know

That I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little suped up
Four wheel Drive
Carved my name
Into his leather seats
Took a Louisville Slugger
To both headlights
Slashed a hole
In all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think
Before he cheats

I might’ve saved a little trouble
For the next girl
‘Cause the next time that he cheats
Oh you know it won’t be on me
No, not on me

‘Cause I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little suped up
Four wheel Drive
Carved my name
Into his leather seats
Took a Louisville Slugger
To both headlights
Slashed a hole
In all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think
Before he cheats

Maybe next time he’ll think
Before he cheats

Oh oh oh
Before he cheats

Sunday Music Clip (Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts)

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Back before Carrie Underwood became a platinum selling country superstar, she was on a little television program you may have heard of called American Idol. Well, while on that show, she got the chance to sing God Bless the Broken Road with Rascal Flatts live on the finale show right before she won that season. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and watch that performance.

CMA Performers Announced

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

eagles.jpgThis year’s CMA Awards ceremony is shaping up to be full of great live performances. The show will be broadcast on Wednesday November 7th on ABC. Previously announced artists slated to perform include Brad Paisley (who leads the pack with 5 nominations this year), Sugarland, Josh Turner, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, and the show’s hosts Brooks & Dunn.

Another huge announcement was made today about the CMA live performances. The Eagles, who have never performed live on an awards show, will reunite to play a song at the CMAs. Their current single “How Long” was released to country radio and has been well received by fans. While The Eagles have never performed live at the CMAs, they have had some previous success with the awards:

In 1993, Eagles drummer Don Henley was nominated for CMA Vocal Event of the Year with Trisha Yearwood for “Walkaway Joe,” which the two performed together during the 1992 CMA Awards. In 1994, Common Thread: The Songs of The Eagles won CMA Album of the Year. The project featured top Country artists performing Eagles’ hits including Clint Black, Brooks & Dunn, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, and Yearwood.

See all of these great artists on “Country Music’s Biggest Night” starting at 8:00 PM ET on Wednesday November 7th.
