Blake Shelton and his choir came in third in the Clash of the Choirs competition, but they gave an awesome performance of a mash up of Three Dog Night’s “Joy the World” and the Christmas carol of the same name. So, have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy the choir!

Blake Shelton’s Choir Comes in Third

Friday, December 21st, 2007

blakechoir.jpgDid you catch all the episodes of Clash of the Choirs this week? Blake Shelton was able to lead his choir all the way to the finale and ended up placing third in the competition. Nick Lachey’s choir took home the top prize, and Patti LaBelle’s team became the runner up in the week long battle.

Considering Blake doesn’t read music and he doesn’t have really any experience with choirs, let alone leading them, it was a great job. His choir was put together from auditions given by citizens of his hometown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They only had three short weeks to come together and perform in front of a live audience and an average of 8 million home viewers per night.

Blake’s choir performed a lot of great country songs including Little Big Town’s “Boondocks”, “Life is a Highway” by Chris Ledoux and most recently from the “Cars” soundtrack by Rascal Flatts, and the choir backed Blake as he sang “This Can’t Be Good” from his latest CD “Pure BS”. Perhaps their most creative and fun performance, though, was a great mash up of “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night and the traditional Christmas carol of the same name. I’m still looking for a clip of that performance and if I can find one, I’ll post it as the Sunday Music Clip.

What did you think of “Clash of the Choirs” and Blake’s group? Did you watch and more importantly did you vote? Let me know in the comments section below.

I am getting super excited about next week’s show “Clash of the Choirs” featuring Blake Shelton. I’ve always liked Blake and his sense of humor, so it’s fun to watch these sneak peek clips and it just makes me want to watch the show even more! Blake is a naturally funny guy with a sarcastic sense of humor. I heard him give an interview on the radio back when “Some Beach” came out about how a teenage girl was suspended from school for singing it in the halls because the administration thought the lyrics were inappropriate cursing. The interviewer asked him what he thought about that, his response was “I don’t care. I hate kids.” Of course, he was kidding, but it was so straight laced it was hilarious.

I am looking forward to that on “Clash of the Choirs”, since I also enjoyed Blake’s presence on Nashville Star last year as a judge with his humor, but usually well thought out and helpful criticism. This time, however, he’s the contestant and his choir has to compete to win the charity money. Undoubtedly, his serious side has to come out to lead his choir to victory. I was so kindly emailed the link to the following clip of Blake and his choir rehearsing for the competition to share with all of you. I hope you enjoy it! Don’t forget to tune in starting this Monday night, December 17th, at 8 PM ET/7 PM CT to watch and vote for Blake and his choir!

Saturday Song Lyrics (Blake Shelton)

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

sheltonalbum.jpgBrrr! It’s cold here and it’s STILL snowing. I don’t know about you, but I sure could use some sun and sand, even if it is just through some song lyrics. I picked “Some Beach” by Blake Shelton because it’s a great tune and how can I deny a guy who puts my favorite NASCAR driver in his videos? So, please enjoy these lyrics and have a Margarita for me!

Some Beach by Blake Shelton

Driving down the interstate
Running thirty minutes late
Singin’ Margaritaville and minding my own
Some foreign car drivin’ dude with the road rage attitude
Pulled up beside me talkin’ on his cell phone
He started yelling at me like I did something wrong
He flipped me the bird an’ then he was gone

Some beach
Somewhere
There’s a big umbrella casting shade over an empty chair
Palm trees are growin’ and a warm breezes blowin’
I picture myself right there
On Some beach, somewhere

I circled the parkin’ lot, tryin’ to find a spot
Just big enough I could park my old truck
A man with a big cigar was getting into his car
I stopped and I waited for him to back up
From out of no where a Mercedes Benz
Came cruisin’ up and whipped right in

Some beach
Somewhere
There’s nowhere to go and you got all day to get there
There’s cold margaritas and hot Senoritas smiling with long dark hair
On some beach
Somewhere

I sit in that waiting room
It seemed like all afternoon
The nurse finally said doc’s ready for you
You’re not gonna feel a thing we’ll give you some novicane
That tooth will be fine in a minute or two
But he stuck that needle down deep in my gum
And he started drillin’ before I was numb

Some beach
Somewhere
There’s a beautiful sunset burning up the atmosphere
There’s music and dancing and lovers romancing
In the salty evening air
On some beach
Somewhere
On some beach, somewhere

Blake Shelton: Choir Director?

Friday, December 7th, 2007

shelton.jpgWell, that pesky writer’s strike is still going strong. That is not very good news, but if it keeps up, then we’re going to continue seeing our favorite country music stars compete in various reality show competitions and that could be really fun. I’ve already told you all about Trace Adkins and his desire to become Donald Trump’s newest Apprentice (all for charity, of course), but now another country music star is hitting the reality show stage.

Blake Shelton is no stranger to the genre that is reality television. Blake spent time behind the judges’ table last season for Nashville Star, so not only does he know reality shows, he knows great singers when he hears them (although I did question his hearing at some points during last season’s Nashville Star, but I digress). Now he gets to put both of those talents to good use for NBC’s latest reality television offering “Clash of the Choirs”. The premise of the show is to take five music artists from various genres and have them travel back to their hometowns and form a choir. They will then direct and coach those choirs and it will all come to a head in a competition between the choirs to see whose is the best.

Joining Blake in this competition will be Nick Lachey, Michael Bolton, Patti LaBelle, and Kelly Rowland. The four night competition begins on Monday December 17th at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT. There are some sneak peeks at the choirs over at NBC.com, as well as some interactive games for you to gear up for the big competition.

As for Blake, he is heard in the promos saying he had never really wanted to direct a choir, but you can tell the jokester really enjoys interacting with the singers.

To tide you over until the show airs, check out this clip of Blake choosing his choir:
